The Friendswood Public Library mural is a color, and playful piece that was inspired by graphic novel illustrations. It is based around the elements of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics) and located next to a Young Adults section in one of their meeting rooms.
It features a girl immersed in a colorful burst of ideas using the icons of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics). The library didn’t want to use any text or the words S.T.E.A.M. (formerly S.T.E.M) as the term may get updated in the future and we wanted this mural to last a long time for the local community. While keeping these elements in mind, we also didn’t want to be so literal about the idea. We wanted to bring in something fun and brighten the area to get people to come into the library and enjoy the space.
